About the Property
The Hideaway on the Hill is the perfect launching point for your weekend adventures. Perched above the village of Sperryville, this sturdy brick three-bedroom two-bath home combines low maintenance with a great location on a 0.76 acre parcel. Walk two-tenths of a mile to the village of Sperryville for galleries, restaurants, shops and the post office. Head in the other direction, and walk or bike along Woodward Road, a quiet gravel road which stretches for five miles with gorgeous views and lovely woods.
Originally built in 1970, the home has been lovingly remodeled to fit today’s lifestyle. Contemporary and traditional styles have been melded in perfect harmony. There is an open floor plan with beautiful oak hardwood floors and many large windows, making the home feel open, bright and inviting. The home features a spacious finished basement with a wood-burning fireplace, full bath, kitchen and a separate entrance. In the past this has been a great place for overflow company and has also been used as a rental.
Rappahannock County is a foodie’s dream, with interesting restaurant options and a vibrant local food scene that includes wineries, vegetable farms, livestock farms, and dairies. The village of Sperryville is a charming small town (population 350) with a surprising list of features. Restaurants include the Thornton River Grille, Rudy’s Pizza, Creekside Bakery, and Burgers n’ Things. There is also the Sperryville Corner Store for wine and gourmet treats; Triple Oak Bakery for gluten-free goodies; Heritage Hollow Farm Store for local meat, eggs, and more; Roy’s Orchard for fruits, berries, produce and a huge selection of other grocery items; and Waterpenny Farm for organically-grown self-serve produce. Sperryville also features two craft breweries: Hopkins Ordinary Ale Works and Pen Druid Brewing. Copper Fox, the well known whiskey distillery adds to the fun and is a great place to take a tour. An abundance of food and drink in this quaint town provides much entertainment every weekend.
There are two art galleries and a yoga studio on Main Street and the River District Arts studios and gallery on the edge of town. Just west of town is a holistic spa and natural foods store. Farther afield but just a short drive away are many more attractions, including the Shenandoah National Park and the Appalachian Trail; and the Town of Washington, home to the renowned Inn at Little Washington, to name just a few.
NOTE: The Property is comprised of two tax map parcels – TM#38A-1-60C, 0.66 acres and TM#38A-1-60B, 0.10 acres. Both are included in the sale of this home.
