On a quiet Sunday morning, the church bells can be gently heard pealing in the distance as they drift up the valley and to the summit of Church Bell Mountain. The 25 acres +/- rises up the eastern slope to the crest. At the top of the hill is a large plateau that would make a perfect home site. To the east, you look at out the Shenandoah National Park. To the the west, the George Washington National Forest stretches out in the distance with the Shenandoah Valley laying below it. The views from the home site are truly spectacular.
At the base of the hill is a small open field that would be perfect for a small stable or pasture. An old logging road, that is in great shape, winds its way up the hillside to the home site. The lower portion of the forest is mostly Yellow Poplar that is about 30 years old. As you go up the hillside, the trees become more mature (about 100 years old). The majority of the forest is a nice mixture of oaks of every stripe and variety including Chestnut, White, Red and Scarlet as well as a Red Maple and White Pine.
Despite its perfect privacy, Church Bell Mountain is only minutes from the town of Luray and the Shenandoah National Park. Through the Jewell Hollow Access Road you can be on the Skyline Drive with its myriad of hikes in under 10 minutes. The town of Sperryville with its eclectic assortment of galleries shops, restaurants and breweries is just down the road.
Located about two hours from Washington, DC, Church Bell Mountain is an easy drive for a weekend getaway yet it feels a world away.
