To produce the best fruit, Fiery Run Vineyard was carefully selected for aspect, elevation, location and soils. The overriding goal is producing some of the finest grapes in the state of Virginia. It took the current owner over 3 years to find this perfect vineyard site and now you can capitalize on his experience, determination and vision.
Fiery Run Vineyard is 17.9 gently sloping acres with an elevation of 1,000 feet to 1,200 feet, the ideal elevation for growing grapes. It has a northeast aspect and excellent air drainage to mitigate late season frosts. The property is mostly open with several granite outcroppings and breathtaking mountain views. A gentle knoll on the highest portion of the property is an excellent site to build a winery and/or home. There is an approval for a five-bedroom septic system in this location.
The vineyard is an acre of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot vines, three of the Traditional Bordeaux varieties. The three year old vines are planted in a novel 4’ x 6’ grid with about 1,815 vines per acre, which is about three times the number of vines as the conventional arrangement. This intensive growing system produces fewer grapes per vine but more fruit per acre. It coaxes the vines to produce grapes with more concentrated flavors and higher sugar content. It also reduces maintenance, pruning and spraying costs. The vines are carefully planted in a north-south orientation to insure even ripening. Most of the remaining acreage is suitable for expanding the vineyard. The vineyard is deer fenced and there is a small covered pavilion for tractors and other growing equipment.
Fiery Run Vineyard has an excellent location. It is less than two miles from Linden Vineyards, widely acknowledged as one of the finest wineries on the east coast. In addition to Linden Vineyards there are several other wineries in the neighborhood so there is a steady stream of wine aficionados visiting the area. The property is about ½ mile from the Linden Exit of Interstate 66, making it an easy day trip from the Washington metropolitan area.
