Bald Mountain Overlook stretches from ridge to ridge across a small valley on the southern flank of Walden Mountain. It is 32 acres +/- of mature forest, open pastures massive granite outcroppings and a good sized pond. The varied topography makes the property feel much larger than it is.
From the higher portions of the property there are excellent western views of Old Rag Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains on the horizon. Bald Mountain dominates the southern view. There are several excellent elevated home sites that could have panoramic 180-degree mountain views.
Much of the open portion of the property follows a small creek as it meanders up the valley. There is a series of meadows separated by copses of Virginia Pines and Red Cedars. This area is excellent wildlife habitat as evidenced by many turkey scratches, deer rubs and game trails.
The property includes a solid metal 1,200 Square foot equipment storage and workshop building. With sliding doors, a concrete floor and installed electricity, it could be repurposed as a barn, studio or office.
Bald Mountain Overlook is located on Slate Mills Road, a scenic and lightly traveled country road in the southern part of Rappahannock County. Rappahannock and surrounding counties offer endless recreational possibilities. There are wineries and breweries, great restaurants and cafes, antique stores, farms and orchards, and much more. Located about two hours from Washington, DC, and about an hour from Charlottesville, Bald Mountain Overlook is an easy drive for a weekend getaway yet it feels a world away. It is convenient to Sperryville, Madison and Culpeper.
Sperryville was recently voted the best small town in Virginia. Run into town for wood-fired pizza at RPK and grab a craft cocktail at Francis while you wait for your order. Or stock up on gourmet goodies at the Corner Store and have a growler filled at one of the two breweries in the village. Sperryville features restaurants, a coffee shop/wine bar, a distillery, a yoga studio, art galleries and a nine hole golf course.
