In an area that is renowned for its spectacular natural beauty, Parkside Retreat stands out as a truly spectacular property. From the cabin, an old logging trail leads you to the upper pasture. A network of trails that loop through the property start from the pasture. With this great network of trails, you will be hard pressed to need more land for hiking, but if you need more land you can easily explore the more than 196,000 acres of Shenandoah National Park that adjoins the property.
There are a multitude of great home sites on the land, but for early risers one of the best is on the eastern side of the parcel with stunning southeastern views. From here, you can look over the farmland that surrounds the little village of Etlan with Dulaney, Adam Yowell and Mitchell Mountains in the foreground. If you would rather see spectacular sunsets in the evening, there is another wonderful home site on the western side of the property with more southwestern views. From this home site, you can see Utz, Double Top, Dulaney and Carpenter Mountains as well as the farms that dot the valley between Old Rag and Dulaney Mountain.
Because of its outstanding location, Parkside Retreat is ideal for those who love the outdoors. You can hunt, fish, explore and birdwatch on your own property. And when you want to stretch your legs a little more, Old Rag Mountain, White Oak Canyon and an extensive network of trail in the Park are only 10 minutes away. For trout fishing, the Robinson, Rose and Hughes Rivers are about a 5 minute drive away. DuCard Vineyard is a short walk down Etlan Road and you can also explore some of the areas other wineries and breweries.
Parkside Retreat is about a mile from the little village of Etlan where there is a country store. It is about twelve miles from the slightly larger village of Sperryville, the best small town in Virginia. Sperryville features restaurants, a coffee shop/wine bar, a whiskey distillery, two breweries, a yoga studio and gym, art galleries and a nine-hole golf course. There is also an entrance to the Skyline Drive and numerous access points to the Shenandoah National Park in Sperryville and the mountains surrounding the village are laced with great hiking trails for exercise and exploring.
Parkside Retreat is about 13 miles from the town of Madison and 20 miles from the town of Culpeper where the historic Main Street thrives with restaurants, bakeries, and interesting shops. Culpeper has most of the standard big box stores as well as multiple grocery stores.
